If I ask you to tell me what your purpose is, do you know? Interestingly enough, about 80% of people asked this question do not know. EVERYONE and EVERYTHING has a purpose. For those of you who have not found your life purpose, I bet you asked yourself “Why am I here, what am I supposed to do.” Oftentimes, this sort of mindset appears as what writers known as “writers block.” We focus so hard on thinking about it that we can’t even get started.
Why is it important to know your purpose? For starters, purpose is an internal motivator. Aligning your life with your purpose is like getting an unlimited supply of motivation, passion and even drive. When we hit our internal motivators, we are unstoppable. Secondly, living a life of purpose, on purpose, has a direct correlation to one’s happiness. Want to become a happier you? Find your purpose. However, don’t just find it, act upon it!
I can tell you from personal experience, I spent 37 years of my life looking for the reason I was here. 37 YEARS. That being said, I found my purpose and when I do things that are focused on my purpose, I have renewed power. I am motivated, I don’t need to be motivated. I am driven, I don’t need anyone to tell me to get going. I forget to eat and sometimes look at the clock to see it is 1am and I should probably go to bed but I want to keep going. I LOVE coaching and the art of mastering my skills so that I can help others break barriers they never thought they could break.
So, how do you find your purpose? Well, the true way to find your happiness generally takes a bit of time. However, there are 4 things you can ask yourself to get you in the right direction.
- What are you good at?
- What do you love to do?
- Does it stretch you?
- Are you serving others?
Step #1, What are you good at? Write down a list of things that you are good at.
Step #2, What do you love to do? Write down a list of things you love to do. Now, look to find common things between step 1 and 2. highlight what is common.
Step #3. Does it stretch you? Next, evalutate what you highlighted from step 2, does it give you the ability to grow? Does it give you the ability to build mastery skills? If it does, move to Step #4. If it doesn't move back to Step 1 and 2.
Step 4. Does it serve others? This part is the most crucial step. In order for it to resonate with you and to become your purpose, It must serve others. Your purpose is to serve others. and these steps will help you find what it is you do to serve others.
Now that you know how to start heading towards your purpose, are you actually living your purpose on purpose? By living your life of purpose, you will essentially be living a life of meaning. Now that you have a good idea of your purpose, it should resonate with you. It should feel GOOD. Its now time to turn to your purpose and commit to it. Every action you take sound be in the direction of your purpose. Every Action.
This is one of my favorites on knowing if you have found your purpose!
Now, Live your life of PURPOSE...ON PURPOSE
