If you are reading this, you have probably tried a number of diets looking to lose weight yet they don't work. Have you ever said..."If only I could lose 10lbs, I would be happy". "If only I could look like “HER,” I would be happy." The problem is, this…
“We must first work on our mind before our body”
The diet companies know this and enjoy the fact that you go from one diet plan to another, to another and to another. Right? Diet Companies have a lucrative business because people will try one, it will fail and then they try another.
I am sure you have heard the term “GET YOUR MIND RIGHT!” This is exactly what you need to do. If you really want to lose weight or change something about your body, you are most likely looking at it (you) negatively. Like the roots of a tree, your mind must be set right and watered appropriately to grow. Your mind is the root to your body. When you get fixated on a certain part of your body you don’t like, you stay unhappy until it is fixed. Negativity will not get you where you want to go. In fact, it will get you more of what you DON'T WANT.
On the other hand, positivity increases your energy, improves self–efficacy and increases your level of resilience along with an improved immune system and more consistency in your work. A positive brain has 31% higher productivity, higher tolerance of pain and 3x more creativity. It can also extend your life. A positive person is 90% more likely to live to 85 years old. Yet, diet companies don’t tell us this. They want you to keep spending money, obviously.
So if what you are doing is NOT working, I offer 3 things to help you change your mind, to get it RIGHT and then SEE what happens.
- Start with happiness – Make a list of attributes you like about yourself that will help you accomplish your goals. Maybe your friends come to you for advice. Use this to convince them to start a running group or workout group. This can help you to start with happiness vs negative thoughts about what you want to change.
- Change your mindset – By making happiness a priority, you increase the chance of achieving the goal you set. Instead of hating what you look like now, look at it positively, that you are working out and eating healthy, taking a step towards your goal every day. Maybe you love to listen to audio books or you love to read yet you hate to bicycle for cardio. How about listening to a audio book or reading something fun while you bike, this could change your hatred towards biking because you are doing something at the same time that you enjoy. Changing your mindset required looking outside the box to see what you can do to bring fun into your workout and diet.
- Reward yourself – By this I do not mean to go eat a bowl of Ice Cream after working out! Yes, it may be FAT FREE but it is still not going to get you where you want and will slow your results. Reward yourself by doing something you enjoy. You must keep your mind happy in order to ensure progress states consistent.
Once you have committed to looking at yourself positively, you are ready!
“We must first work on our mind before our body”
A few notes that can help in weight loss:
- If your goal is to lose weight, look at everything you are eating or drinking. If what you want to eat or drink will not help you reach your goal, why even think about it?
- No one will tell you losing weight is easy, you have to commit to the process if you want to see the end result. I assure you, it will be worth it.
- You must make sure you are not taking in more calories than you are burning. This alone over a given period of time will allow you to lose weight.
- Drink as much water as you can.
- Eat 6 light meals over the whole day, spaced equally apart. Talk to a nutritionist about your needs. If you do not have one, you can click here for one I recommend.
- Food and water go against what we think. When you don't eat much, your body will freak out and hoard whatever you give it because it doesn't know when you will eat again. If you eat healthy meals often, your body will recognize this and start to burn consistently as it knows more food is coming. Consistency is KEY. Same goes for water.
- To get the best results, use both cardio and weight training. Don’t worry ladies, weights will not make you look MANLY!
- FACT - Results are slower than you would like, if this bothers you, don’t stand on the scales every day. Your body will fluctuate every day and your actual weight may be skewed by what you just ate or the fact that you consumed a lot of water. If you stick to it, results will come before you know it.
- This is the only body you have. Care for it, it is your temple!
